In a peaceful small town, there lives a young man full of vigor and vitality. He is intelligent and curious about the world, with a strong desire to explore. However, recently he has fallen into deep confusion.

It turns out that in his life, some people praise him as a genius and are full of praise for his talent and ability. These words of praise make him overjoyed and can't help feeling a little smug. But there are also people who call him a fool and accuse him of being reckless and lacking in thought when doing things. These critical voices are like a basin of cold water, extinguishing the joy in his heart and making him fall into self-doubt.

The young man is very distressed. He doesn't know how to view himself. He feels that he has both extraordinary talent and obvious shortcomings. This contradictory perception makes him confused and not knowing where to go.

So, the young man decided to ask a highly respected Taoist priest in the town for advice. He came to the Taoist temple, respectfully saluted the Taoist priest, and then told his confusion: "Master, some people say I am a genius, and some people call me a fool. What do you think?"

The Taoist priest looked at the young man's expectant eyes and didn't directly answer his question. Instead, he asked back: "How do you view yourself?" The young man was stunned by the Taoist priest's question and had never seriously thought about this question.

The Taoist priest saw the young man's confusion and said with a smile: "Child, let me tell you a story." The young man nodded and waited quietly for the Taoist priest's story.

The Taoist priest said slowly: "A long, long time ago, there was a man named Zhuang Zhou. Zhuang Zhou dreamed that he had turned into a butterfly and was flying freely among the flowers. After waking up, Zhuang Zhou was lost in thought. He didn't know whether he had dreamed of the butterfly or the butterfly had dreamed of him. This story tells us that people are often confused by the appearances of the outside world and forget their true selves. Just like you now, being influenced by the evaluations of others and ignoring your own understanding of yourself."

The Taoist priest continued: "In Taoist thought, there is an important concept called 'Tao'. Tao is the origin and law of all things in the universe. It is everywhere. Each of us has our own Tao, that is, our own essence and value. Only when we recognize our own Tao can we truly recognize ourselves and find our life direction."

"For example, a catty of rice is a few bowls of rice in the eyes of a cook; in the eyes of a baker, it is a baked cake; in the eyes of a wine merchant, it becomes wine again. The rice is still that rice. Similarly, you are still you. How much potential you have depends on how you view yourself." The Taoist priest said earnestly, "If a cook only sees that rice can make a few bowls of rice, then she will be limited to the thinking of cooking and cannot see other possibilities of rice. If a baker only sees that rice can make baked cakes, then he will also miss other uses of rice. Similarly, if you only see the evaluations of others and ignore your own potential and value, then you will be bound by the opinions of others and cannot exert your true strength."

After listening to the Taoist priest's words, the young man fell into deep thought. He began to recall his past and think about his own advantages and disadvantages. He found that although he is sometimes reckless, he also has a brave and decisive side; although he sometimes lacks thought, he also has innovative thinking and ideas. He realized that he is not a perfect person, but neither is he a good-for-nothing person. He has his own value and potential. As long as he can correctly recognize himself, give play to his advantages and make up for his shortcomings, he will definitely be able to achieve something.

The Taoist priest looked at the young man's thoughtful expression and knew that he had understood something. So, the Taoist priest said again: "Child, life is like a journey. We will encounter all kinds of people and things. In this process, we will hear all kinds of voices, including praise, criticism, encouragement. These voices are like fallen leaves in the wind and will fall in our hearts. But we cannot be influenced by these voices. We must learn to listen to the voice of our own hearts, recognize our own Tao, and find our life direction."

"Master, I understand." The young man raised his head, with a firm light shining in his eyes. "I cannot be influenced by the evaluations of others. I want to recognize myself, believe in myself, give play to my advantages and make up for my shortcomings. I want to be like that catty of rice and show different values in the eyes of different people and achieve my life goals."

The Taoist priest nodded with a smile and said, "Very good, child. You have understood the importance of recognizing yourself. Remember, only when you recognize your own value and potential can you go further and fly higher on the road of life."

From then on, the young man was no longer troubled by the evaluations of others. He began to seriously think about his life goals and development directions, and tried to give play to his advantages and make up for his shortcomings. He learned to listen to the voice of his own heart, recognize his own Tao, and find his life direction.

In this process, the young man also deeply realized the profoundness of Taoist thought. He understood that the "Tao" of Taoism is not only a philosophical concept but also a kind of life wisdom. It tells us to recognize ourselves, conform to nature, give play to our potential, and realize our life value.

In our lives, we often encounter the same confusion as the young man. We are influenced by the evaluations of others and don't know how to view ourselves. But as long as we can be like the young man, recognize our own value and potential, believe in ourselves, give play to our advantages and make up for our shortcomings, we will definitely be able to go further and fly higher on the road of life.

Let us recognize ourselves and achieve life together and show our unique charm in this colorful world.
